Methodology & coverage
How the numbers are computed, where they come from, and exactly how much of the record is fully known.
Conventions
- Result & shoot-outs. The result is decided by the score after 90 or 120 minutes. A match level at that point is a draw, even if a penalty shoot-out settled the tie; the shoot-out winner is recorded separately.
- Goal credit. Each goal is credited to the team that benefited. An own goal counts towards the scoring team's total on the scoreboard but is never credited to any player's goal tally. Penalties are counted as goals and flagged as penalties.
- A team's goals are the goals it scored across the slice, home or away.
- Date precision. Most matches have a known day; a few early matches are known only to the month or year, and are flagged accordingly.
- Official vs friendly. Default figures cover official competitions only; friendlies are included only when the lens asks for them.
- Minutes & cards. Timing-based and discipline-based statistics are computed only over matches whose minutes or cards are known (see the coverage table) and always show their denominator.
Sources
Every match, goal and sending-off is traceable to a public source. Primary references include Wikipedia (English, Spanish and Catalan), RSSSF, BDFutbol, WorldFootball, FBref and the official sites of LaLiga, the RFEF and UEFA, with the Internet Archive used for older pages. Facts are never filled in from memory: where a detail is unknown, it is left empty and flagged rather than guessed.

Partial data. Goals are fully attributed for every played official match. Only the 1902 match lacks goal minutes. Red and second-yellow sendings-off are fully confirmed for most matches; earlier matches may be partial or unrecorded, as shown above.
